Kain-les-Bains and its history

Kain-les-Bains

At the end of the 19th century, the village of Kain enjoyed renewed activity following the discovery of mineral water, which led to the establishment of Doctor Kneipp’s thermal institute. Located on the Kain-la-Tombe side, particularly at Le Saulchoir, the waters of Kain were described as iron-rich, clear and pure. They were considered excellent for the digestive system. This German priest became famous for his hydrotherapy treatments and opened an institute here in Kain-les-Bains. A 75-room hotel welcomed spa guests from Paris and Lille for stays of a few days. At the beginning of the 20th century, just ten years later, the springs dried up, the ponds emptied and the thermal institute had to close.
We wanted to revive Kain’s thermal heritage by naming our centre Les Thermes de Kain.
